Maurice E. Goodwin
Speech-Language Pathologist · Vocal Coach · Musician
I'm a speech-language pathologist, vocal coach, and educator based in Houston, TX. My work blends a background in vocal performance with years of clinical experience helping professional voice users recover from injury and find their strongest, most sustainable sound.
From the choir loft to the clinic
I grew up surrounded by music. My mother and sisters are singers, and many of my earliest memories are of learning harmony in church and school choirs. That love for the voice eventually took me to stages from Houston Grand Opera to Irving Plaza in New York City — and taught me how powerful, complex, and deeply personal a voice can be.
After earning a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Shenandoah University, I pursued my Master's in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh, driven by a desire to bridge the gap between artistry and science.
Since then, I've had the privilege of working with singers and professional voice users across nearly every corner of the performance world — from the Metropolitan Opera to the West End, and from regional theaters to concert stages around the globe.
My work continues to center on helping people connect with their most authentic and sustainable voices.
Clinical foundations, artistic heart
I completed my clinical fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Voice and Swallow Clinics, working with singers, actors, teachers, and professional voice users navigating complex vocal challenges. I continued that work in the Texas Medical Center and beyond, providing care for clients with a range of voice needs.
Alongside my clinical work, I serve as adjunct faculty in the Vocology Certificate Program at Lamar University and co-lead VoiceProEd, an education platform for voice clinicians.
Whether I'm in the therapy room, classroom, or studio, my focus remains the same — helping people use their voices freely, fully, and sustainably.
