Voice Therapy

Voice therapy is a specialized type of speech therapy designed to help people improve how their voice sounds and feels. Whether you're dealing with a diagnosed voice disorder or just noticing changes in your voice, therapy can support vocal recovery, strength, and clarity. I work with people experiencing:

  • Vocal fold nodules, cysts, or polyps

  • Muscle tension dysphonia

  • Vocal fold paralysis or weakness

  • Gender Affirming Voice

Most clients begin voice therapy after a referral from an ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat doctor), often following a laryngoscopy or stroboscopy exam.

Voice therapy is currently offered virtually for residents of Texas.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Voice therapy is a medical service that helps improve how your voice sounds and feels. Through personalized sessions, we’ll target your specific voice goals using exercises, techniques, and education to build healthier, more efficient voice use.

Voice therapy is often part of a collaborative care plan involving your ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat doctor) or laryngologist, and may be recommended following a formal voice evaluation.

  • We’ll begin with a formal voice evaluation if one hasn’t been completed yet. From there, each session is personalized and collaborative. We’ll check in on how your voice feels, clarify your goals, and work through targeted vocal exercises, breath work, and resonance strategies. You’ll also learn practical tools to reduce strain and support a healthier, more efficient voice in your daily life.

  • Voice therapy is often covered by insurance, but coverage depends on your specific plan and provider. Some insurance companies may require a referral or pre-authorization from a physician.

At this time, I do not accept insurance directly. However, I’m happy to provide a superbill—a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance provider for possible out-of-network reimbursement. I recommend checking with your insurance company in advance to understand your coverage and any required steps.

  • A referral from a doctor is not always required to start voice therapy. While some insurance plans may mandate a referral, in many cases, you can directly schedule an appointment with a voice therapist without a referral.

However, to begin voice therapy services, you will need laryngeal endoscopy; an exam of the vocal folds.

A laryngeal exam before starting voice therapy provides crucial diagnostic information, helps in tailoring treatment plans, enables monitoring of progress, and allows for collaboration among professionals. It ensures that the voice therapy approach is appropriate and effective for the individual's specific voice-related concerns.

  • Voice therapy is a medical service provided by a licensed speech-language pathologist. It focuses on improving vocal function when there's a voice disorder, injury, or concern—often following a referral from an ENT or laryngologist. As a licensed provider in the state of Texas, I offer voice therapy to clients located within the state.

Singing voice lessons, on the other hand, are educational and performance-focused. These sessions help clients develop healthy vocal technique, improve artistry, and meet their singing or vocal goals. Voice lessons are not medical treatment and can be provided to clients anywhere, regardless of location or diagnosis.
